![]() The Cambridge line had some reliability problems, which is a shame, because they would have to sound awesome if they use basically the Pathfinder circuit with an actual preamp tube, a larger Celestion speaker, and some added tone controls. I mic'ed mine up for a quick jam with friends and along with a Tele and some lightly-distorted gain, was getting some nice Page-esque tones with some nice spank and the right amount of punch without being harsh. To a fair degree, theyre right, IMO - most of the amps in this category that I tested out had almost NO clean headroom at any level. It has a chimey tone that reminds me of an EL84 and works well for Brit-pop or older Marshall-type tones. ![]() I know this has probably been asked before but I am having difficulty sifting through all the information on upgrades for the amps. Its a 15W solid state amp with an 8' Bulldog speaker, and at 120, it is incredibly lightweight, portable, and offers some clean tones that are far superior to other SS practice amps (some even say they rival the AC30). I even ran out and picked up the Cambridge 15. From search around various forums, it seems that Vox is no longer making their wildly popular Pathfinder 15/15R. It does have a bit of a British voice to it. 1 D drob Tele-Holic Joined Posts 525 Location Toronto Im late to the Pathfinder party, but happy with my new (used) pathfinder. Any of the Vox models I've covered sound great, and many haven't yet risen out of. I'm not sure that it actually sounds like a tube amp, but it's very responsive to for a solid state amp (at mid-gain, you can play lightly and it cleans up or strum hard for AC/DC or Who-like crunch), has a great clean sound (for a small solid-state amp), and has some good mid to high-gain tone that doesn't sound thin or buzzy like most cheap practice amps. The Pathfinder 15R houses a wonderful sounding, vintage Tremolo effect and is extremely versatile when it comes to tone. The Pacemaker uses a 10 ' speaker and is an excellent example of a 15. Vox introduced the Pathfinder 15R in 2000 as a compact 15-watt combo amp with a solid-state design and a single 8-inch speaker. I loved my Pathfinder that I had for years.
